Before you go
Motorized boats launching at Lake Tahoe go through the regional aquatic invasive species inspection program. Use its official station, appointment, preparation and fee information rather than a copied price list, and arrive clean, drained and dry.
On the water
Tahoe is a long tow from Las Vegas and a high-elevation, cold-water lake. Plan the drive, the inspection appointment and the weather together, and dress the crew for cold water.
Inspection stickers and fees
Lake Tahoe requires a mandatory watercraft inspection before any motorized boat launches. Published fees: a Tahoe In and Out sticker is $70 for personal watercraft and vessels up to 17 ft and $115 for vessels 17 ft 1 in and up; a Tahoe Only sticker for sealed vessels is $50; a single inspection is $65 up to 17 ft and $95 above it; hand-launched electric and non-motorized craft are free. The program posts a 2026 update to its decontamination schedule: $60 simple (one or two water intake systems), $100 complex (three or more intakes or ballasts), and $350 if a mussel is found attached, where the 50 percent clean, drained and dry discount does not apply. A ballasted surf boat falls in the $100 complex tier, so budget the inspection stop into your tow day rather than the ramp line. Source: Lake Tahoe Boat Inspections (tahoeboatinspections.com). How we can help
Ask about service and trailer readiness before the drive north, or about transport planning for the boat.
